Benefits of Calcium on Bone Strength
Why is Calcium good for our Bodies? It has many different benefits, and plays a key role in multiple processes in our bodies.
One of the main reasons we place so much importance on including
Calcium in our diet is due to its benefits in helping our bodies maintain bone strength.
Without Calcium, we face serious health concerns as we grow older which can cause many different problems.
What does Calcium do?
Calcium is necessary for a variety of purposes including maintaining strong bones and teeth.
Our bodies cannot produce Calcium and therefore must be obtained through the food we eat. We do not absorb all of the Calcium we intake directly
to our bones and teeth. Some is used for other purposes, while some is not absorbed at all. We must continuously ingest adequate amounts of Calcium
in order to meet our bodies’ needs. In addition to monitoring Calcium intake, we must also observe our Vitamin D levels. Vitamin D is a key component
in helping with the absorption of Calcium. Without
Vitamin D, the body is not able to adequately absorb Calcium.
How does it help our body?
As mentioned previously, we need Calcium to maintain our bone strength. Without adequate Calcium intake we are likely to develop serious health
problems related to weak or brittle bones. Osteoperosis is an increasingly common disease that generally affects Senior Citizens. According to the
National Osteoporosis Foundation, 1 in 2 women,
and 1 in 4 men over the age of 50 will have an Osteoporosis related fracture in their remaining lifetime.
Although poor bone strength is associated with older people, it can affect anybody, and is generally a result of poor Calcium intake when we are
younger. Therefore, it is important that we intake adequate levels of Calcium in order to help prevent weak bones over the course of our entire lives.
Overall, Calcium is very important in helping our bodies maintain a strong skeletal system. The human body must continuously obtain Calcium in
order to keep our bones strong. It is vital that we monitor our
Calcium and Vitamin D intakes in order to help prevent the serious
consequences of lacking proper bone strength.
